What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness or MBSR (Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction) is the about being fully present. It is paying attention to the present moment on purpose instead of letting the mind wander into the future or the past. One way to practice is to focus all of your attention inward, on say the breath. When the mind wanders simply bring it back without comment or judgment. If it wanders 100 times, bring it back 100 times. Each time we bring it back, we are training the mind to do what we tell it, instead of allowing the mind to fall into unconscious habitual patterns of thinking. Deliberately directing your attention increases focus, resilience, self-awareness, cognitive function and happiness.

How does Mindfulness boost fertility?

The act of slowing down and paying attention to the present moment reconditions the brain to reverse the signs of stress and anxiety and re-wire the brain, creating increased self-awareness, emotional regulation and stability, and resilience to stress. Another way to look at this is through the lease of simple physics which shows us where we put our attention, our energy goes. When we put our attention on trying to figure out why and what to do all the time, the problems magnify because focused energy magnifies a situation, bad or good. Focusing on something negative can make a situation seem worse or bigger than it is. This creates larger emotional reactions, over-reactions, and an unstable, fragmented frame of mind. Mindfulness, the act of deliberately focusing on the present moment, increases focused attention, self-awareness, decreases the size of the amygdala (the part of the brain that reacts to things), and increases cognitive function (clear thought and reasoning).

Studies show that taking only 10 mindfulness classes increases your chance of becoming pregnant by 32%*.

I myself went through Infertility over 20 years ago. It was one of the most debilitating experiences of my life. I was consumed by the ups and downs. I thought there was something wrong with me. What my 20+ years of spiritual study and in-depth study of neuroscience have shown me, is that Mindfulness can help us come out of this anxiety and depression. When you practice, neuroscience shows that it changes the brain at a cellular level ( also what I have learned from Saints and gurus). These changes in the brain, effortlessly bring the mind into a positive calm and happy state of being. Mindfulness has been shown to create a balance in the autonomic nervous system, so we don’t drop back into the high ups and low downs.

Over time, mindfulness meditation builds new neural structure and function, creating new ways of being and ending patterns that don’t serve us.
